Pre-registration

Pre-registration is the process of collecting relevant patient information before the day of the appointment.

Some facilities call it the patient intake process.

Pre-registration used to be used to capture demographics, clinical data and insurance information.

With the advent of electronic records, hospitals and out-patient facilities already have that information provided by the referring physician.

These days, pre-registration calls the day before are really just to tell you what you will owe.

And in some cases, to demand an upfront payment.

Know your plan benefits. Call your insurance company and ask how much you should expect to pay.

Resist making large upfront payments. Any overpayment will be difficult to get refunded.

Expect any refund to take several months and quite a few phone calls demanding your money back.
