Point of Service (POS)

POS stands for Point-of-Service.

It is a type of health insurance plan that is part HMO and part PPO.

♦ Like HMO plans, most POS plans require you to choose a primary care physician from a network of providers

But like a PPO, you have the option to use out-of-network providers.

A POS network usually is not as extensive as its PPO cousin.
