Prescription Drug Plan (PDP)

PDP stands for Prescription Drug Plan.

Many seniors are confused by the abbreviation PDP. They think it is some form of health plan. It is not. It is coverage for prescription drugs.

♦ Medicare refers to this as Part D. It first became available on January 2006.

You can obtain prescription drug coverage by purchasing a separate PDP.

If you join a Medicare Advantage plan (Medicare Part C), you usually get all of your Medicare Part A, Part B and prescription drug coverage (Part D) through these plans.

People purchasing insurance will receive prescription drug coverage as a part of their health insurance plan rather than as a separate insurance.
